Oscar Guartuche ~ Watchmakers Lathe


Oscar Guartuche - Corpus Cristi, TX. is in his 3rd semester of the Horology Program at the Texas Institute of Jewelry Technology. Most of the time during this semester he will be working to produce parts to blue print secifications of +0 and - .01mm ( that is 1/10th the tickness of a human hair). He will be using a watchmakers lathe. The project he is working on in this photo is a .50mm cone shaped pivot with a oil groove and beveled shoulder. This project is made in brass first and then one is made from steel drill rod. In all , he will be required to make 21 different project following blueprints. each project is a little harder then the previous one and usually a little smaller. Stems made to fit working watches will be made as will tools for future use in watch repair work. The Jacot tool is used in the finishing projects.
